Canterbury Tales Question

I had a quick question about the Knight's Tale. Dan mentioned that it was somewhat based on other stories mixed together. Does anyone know what those stories were? And how well-known they were in Chaucer's society?

I believe the Knight's Tale is based on Bocaccio's Teseide. This poem, considered the oldest Italian romantic poem, was well known due to Bocaccio's status as one of the three great Italian poets of the 14th century (the other two being Petrarch and Dante). I'm not sure if Chaucer drew on other stories for the plot of this tale, but I did read that some of the philosophical themes were derived from Boethius' Consolation of Philosophy.
